Botanical Soaps

I use grass-fed, farmer-direct American tallow for lots of reasons. First, because it is bio-compatible with human skin, sharing a similar fatty acid profile that allows nutrients to absorb more efficiently without stripping away moisture. Our goal was to create an exceptionally long-lasting and nutrient-dense bar that was gentle on sensory needs.

We use high-oleic sunflower oil grown here in Minnesota because it is lightweight, highly absorbent, and rich in natural antioxidants like vitamin E while remaining breathable. Infused with herbal recipes that comfort and nourish skin and blended into a tallow-based soap, the sunflower oil is an effective carrier of herbal qualities and increases the lather of the bar.

Each blend is a recipe tried and tested in my home apothecary. All of these bars are nourishing and beneficial to skin, but some speak to different sensory needs or preferences. Additionally, each recipe comforts and supports skin differently.

We use no synthetic fragrances of any kind, ever. However, many of these bars have small amounts of natural essential oils, with two exceptions. The “Nothing Fancy” bar is totally unscented and the “Rose & Patchouli” bar is heavily scented, owing to the power of patchouli essential oil, which may be preferred by someone who enjoys sensory seeking with robust, earthy aromas.

Every batch of soap is made using a slow, old-world process of herbal infusion and cold-process soap making, taking roughly 12 weeks from start to finish. The next wave of soaps will finish in about 7-8 weeks, and will prioritize a greater variety of unscented options.

Each batch of soap is handmade in my small kitchen from start-to-finish, taking around 12 weeks. After mixing, the soap dries in a long “loaf” pan. After about 24 hours, I use a wire cutter to cut each bar by hand, one by one, before curing for 6 weeks. Every detail is applied by hand; no factories, fancy machines, or even a dedicated room.
